Born in Riga, Latvia, Erika Catlaka studied at the special "Emils Darzins" Music School for highly gifted children as well as at the "Jaseps Vitols" Music Academy in Riga. After concluding her Bachelor’s study with excellence, she deepened her musical study at the Berlin University for the Arts (Udk Berlin). Catlaka not only graduated with her degree (2011) with top marks, she also did so with her Master’s study (2015). Within the scope of orchestra projects in Europe and Asia, she has worked together with Sir Colin Davis, Herbert Blomstedt and Vasily Petrenko, among others. She gathered additional orchestra experience in the European Union Youth Orchestra, in the Internationalen Bachakademie Stuttgart and in the "Orkester Norden" as well as the Latvian National Opera, among others. In the meantime, Erika Catlaka is active as a freelance musician in Berlin and plays with various orchestras in and beyond Germany. Catlaka has been a part of The Berlin Residence Orchestra since 2009.
